Hit slop area
A 12px knob looks precise. A 12px hit target feels hostile. Give the finger or cursor a larger invisible target without changing the visual.

Hit slop (or hit area padding) is the invisible expansion around a control. On a color picker, each knob keeps its small face for alignment, while a ::after pseudo-element extends the capture region by a few pixels.
Reveal the hit areas in the demo to see the soft blue pads. They sit behind the knob face (via isolation / z-index) but still receive pointer events — so dragging never feels finicky.
