Shadows on dark mode

In light mode, elevation is cast shadow: outer blurs that separate a surface from the page. In dark mode those same layers disappear into the background.

Prefer an inset highlight — a thin top-edge light — to suggest the same lift. Transition both the fill and the shadow stack when the theme changes so the swap feels continuous, not abrupt.
